The Ethiopian Meat Producers and Exporters Association is among the newly established associations according to government proclamation for sectoral associations establishment. Existing members and potential members in the industry being very confined in number made the association's secretariat very weak and self independent. In order to resolve the existing problems and strength management of the association, YILMA GLOBAL has invited and undertook a detailed study on the association organization's organization and management capacity improvement.
Ethiopian Horticulture Assessment Study for UNCTAD (December 2008)
YILMA GLOBAL undertook assessment study on the Ethiopian Horticulture Sector commissioned by the UN Agency UNCTAD. The sector has a great potential but the country couldn't took the advantage provided by the sector, there fore the agency took the initiation to commission assessment study which can be used as a tool for encouraging foreign companies to invest in the country.
Prepared Business Plan Document for ASTAB Export PLC (January 2008)
ASTAB PLC is a company which is working on the areas of production of Household furnishing products mainly for export market directly and indirectly through foreign souvenir shoppers. The company approached YILMA GLOBAL for the preparation of a business plan in order to acquire loan from banks. After the preparation of the document YILMA GLOBAL advised the company how to approach the banks in order to get the required amount of loan and the necessary steps, procedures and obligations which should be fulfilled through out the process of acquiring fund which is now well underway.
Prepared a five years strategic plan and a detailed one year action plan for ERPPMSA (December 2007)
The Ethiopian Rubber and Plastic Products Manufacturers Sector Association (ERPPMSA) is a newly formed association. It is established in full recognition of the need to address industry wide problems collectively and in partnership with the government and all other key stakeholders. YILMA GLOBAL prepared the first strategic plan for the Ethiopian Rubber and Plastic Products Manufactures Sector Association (ERPPMSA) which the association is using it as road map in the development process of the association. In pursuit of ERPPMSA’s defined vision and mission, the plan provides ERPPMSA with strategic goals and objectives, priorities and action plans. It also serves as a framework for coordination amongst members, donors and partners of the ERPPMSA, and will provide the foundation for future strategic planning and institutional growth.
Market Analysis of the Ethiopian Pasta and Biscuit contracted by the Engineering Capacity Building Program (September 2008)
The Engineering Capacity Building Program (ECBP) of the GTZ has financed an over all market survey in the selected seven major cities of the country. ECBP has contracted YILMA GLOBAL to conduct the study. YILMA GLOBAL undertook the study and the assignment is being implemented for establishment of new and expansion of the existing ones in the sector.
Five years strategic plan for Ethiopian Institution of Ombudsman (EIO) (December 2006)
YILMA GLOBAL involved in a consultancy assignment for the development of a five years strategic plan for the newly established Ethiopian institution of ombudsman (EIO) in partnership with the Emhaziee Global Consulting PLC (EGC) with various international consulting firms specialized in Governance, Justice and ADR. YILMA GLOBAL also involved behind the scene in a similar assignment for Ethiopian Human Right Commissions (EHRC). YILMA GLOBAL working team brought all their academic and practical experiences in crafting the various activities of EIO and EHRC which would serve as a last resort for ADR institution in assisting victims of maladministration and human right abuses respectively in Ethiopia.
Study on Establishment, Rehabilitation and Organization of Correction Centres (May 2003)
Working in Partnership with Daystar Consult International and contracted by the Federal Correction Commission, YILMA GLOBAL undertook a consultancy assignment on the preparation of a full fledge project for establishment and rehabilitation of correction centres in Ethiopia.
Study on survival strategies/activities of street youth (Nov. 2003)
Undertook a research assignment for Concern Ethiopia on assessment of survival strategies/activities of street youth in Addis Ababa and conducted an assessment of potentially marketable skills as alternatives for them. The study served as a major input in reformulating the existing urban program of Concern Ethiopia.
Study on leather industries (1995 – June 2005)
YILMA GLOBAL conducted expansion, rehabilitation and modernization study for leather and leather products manufacturing firms in Ethiopia, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Swaziland, and Zambia for African Project Development Facility (APDF) of the World Bank.
Business Plan for Taytu-Made in Ethiopia (February 2008)
Taytu Made in Ethiopia is a project supported by UNIDO and USAID which is engaged in producing and exporting quality leather products to the top international fashion market, by making its target changing the image of Ethiopia in the international market. YILMA GLOBAL prepared business plan of the company in collaboration with overseas consulting professionals.
Study on Clustering of Ethiopian Leather Industry (April 2004) Conducted a study on key constraints and potentials of Ethiopian Leather Industry and possibility of clustering the Leather industry in its entire value chain to realize the untapped potentials being contracted by Ethiopian Tanners, Footwear and Leather Garment Manufacturers Association in Collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
The study identified key constraints affecting the Ethiopian Leather Industry and designed a mechanism to address the problems and recommended possible linkages with the whole cycle along the value chain for the leather Industry in addressing problems in marketing and value-added inputs. The study later served as a major input in development of Ethiopian Leather Industry Master Plan and Five years Business plan which adopted by Ethiopian Government as a white paper for the development of the Ethiopian Leather Industry.
Implementing the Export-led Poverty Reduction Program of ITC of UNCTAD and WTO in Ethiopia ongoing since 2004
YILMA GLOBAL is implementing the project Export-led Poverty Reduction Program of International Trade Centre-ITC of UNCTAD and WTO in Ethiopia ongoing since 2004 contracted by ITC; a Geneva based UN Agency, as its National consultant.
The Export-led Poverty Reduction Programme (EPRP) is a concrete response by International Trade Centre-ITC of UNCTAD and WTO towards contributing in achieving the Millennium Development Goals-MDG's reducing poverty through empowerment of the poor. Currently the programme is supporting 34,000 out of which 68% are women, in the 21 projects in LDCs in the areas of Agriculture, textiles and tourism on the main. The EEPRP is implementing two pilot projects in Ethiopia: Promotion of Paprika production and export and UTZ Certified Coffee and seek to contribute to the overall development and poverty reduction endeavor of the country through empowering the poor to benefit meaningfully from globally existing trade opportunities.
The specific purposes of the EPRP projects are: Capacity building through training, Enhance capacity of beneficiaries, Develop value-adding activities, Establish market link & promote exports, Intensify production, efficient land allocation.
IImplemented the USAID Growing Ethiopian Market-GEM Project (2004-2006)
Under the principal contractor Development Alternative Inc. -DAI, a US based consulting company; YILMA GLOBAL implemented the Growing Ethiopian Market-GEM Project the pioneer private sector support program of United State Agency for International Development-USAID since the imperial regime. GEM was conceived by USAID as a pilot project to provide direct support for the Ethiopian Private Sector (Enterprise, Chambers and sectorial Associations) whose successful and expeditious implementation became instrumental for a number of other projects followed it.
Opportunity study on the Ethiopian Spice sector
Performed an opportunity study on the Ethiopian Spice sector and developed a project proposal and work plan for promoting paprika for the export market through improved production techniques and linkages to the export market under the Export-led Poverty Reduction Program of UN international Trade Centre , Nov 2004.
Closely work with DAI in Implementing the Blue Revolution Initiative (BRI) project since 2007
YILMA GLOBAL works as a resource organization closely in implementing Blue Revolution Initiative (BRI) project, under the principal contractor, Development ffAlternative Incorporation-DAI. BRI is a US$ 7 Million worth project with a life span of three years and launched in mid 2007.
Blue Revolution Initiative (BRI) helps to address some of the most challenging water issues notably; trans-boundary river basin management, inefficient and non-productive water use, and lack of access by the poor to improved water and sanitation services. The goal of BRI is the transformation of the culture and governance of water resources in the Middle East and Africa.
Conducted a Feasibility Study for Computer Man Collage- CMC (January 2005)
CMC-an internationally renowned IT university planed to open US$ 10 Million worth university in Ethiopia. YILMA GLOBAL took the assignment and conducted a feasibility study on the area which made the collage to secure 10Ha land in Adama Oromiya up on which a full fledge university facility; Dormitory Auditorium Class room, cafeteria, lounge, library laboratory, sport fields and indoor game facilities will be built. The college consists B.Sc. (Hon.) Degree, Diploma, Certificate and, M.Sc. Degree Programmes.
Market Study-Kunuze Colleague (August 2004)
According to the new educational policy YILMA GLOBAL studied the college to adopt the TEVT program in the curriculum design in order to cope up with the ever changing educational system of the country and extract the growing demand for higher level education. By doing so the colleague managed to expand its market share in the sector and increase the number of students in the said private colleague.
Transport Facilitation of the Ethio-Djibouti Corridor (February 2003)
Undertook a consultancy assignment in evaluation of the project on Transport Facilitation of the Ethio-Djibouti Corridor project in partnership with Day Star Consult being contracted by Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with French Embassy and Djibouti Chamber of Commerce.
Private Public Partnership-PPP Study (March 2004)
Undertook an extensive research and prepare a Concept Paper and policy proposal for Addis Ababa City government which later served as a Policy Framework in initiating and launching various Public Private Partnership PPP activities in Addis Ababa.
Organizational Assessment and Restructuring for Federal Correction Commission (June 2004)
YILMA GLOBAL In partnership with Birtunet IT Solution Consulting PLC, undertook a study in restructuring, development of new organization and management structure, manning, preparation of job description, specification and evaluation, development of salary scale, staff manuals, Financial Management Systems and Procedure Manual Preparation which result the existing form of structure.
Technical and Market study: Undertook a number of technical and market studies for various private companies and business: pre feasibility and feasibility studies for new projects and expansion, rehabilitation, modernization study for existing companies. Some of these are:
Prepared a numerous business plans for SME’s for a number of firms including tanneries, footwear factories, mechanized farms, hotels and tourism service, 1995-present.
Conducted a feasibility study for rose farm projects to be set up in Ethiopia by foreign investors and provide consulting on pertinent issues for implementation of the project; acquisition of licenses, registration, investment certificate, land use, and other technical and administrative issues, July 2004 – present.
Developed a project document for undertaking a grand Athletics event in Southern Ethiopia’s Regional Centre and provided consulting advice on event planning, organization, implementation, and resource mobilization strategies, since May 2004.
